How to remove tomato stains from clothes

You are in a restaurant with your friend eating a delicious plate of pasta with tomato sauce and, suddenly, horror! The fork slips out of your hands and the tomato ends up scattering all over that pretty blouse you love so much. “There is no remedy, I will have to throw it away”, you think. Stop there, if you are reading these lines it is because deep down you know that something is going to be done to save the blouse. Of course! Discover the tricks and tips to remove tomato stains (whatever they are) from clothes and they will look like new.

Before getting into the matter, remember this for the next time you get a tomato stain on something: do not try to remove the stain with a napkin, this will only make it spread more. It is better to remove a little with a cutlery and, if possible, put the garment in question to soak until you have time to put these tips into practice.

Tips to remove tomato stains from clothes

Vinegar and water mixture

If you see that the tomato stain is neither very deep nor very extensive, or that it is on a garment that is not immaculate white , try this remedy and you will see that it works well. Put warm water in a basin and add a generous splash of vinegar, submerge the garment and leave it there for at least a couple of hours. Then, rinse with water and wash in the washing machine according to the program that the clothes need. There will be no trace of the tomato stain.

Put some dishwashing detergent on the stain

This trick is also very effective. Put a little dishwashing detergent directly on the tomato stain to be treated and put it in the washing machine as is. If you see that the stain has not been completely removed, repeat the same steps. Instead of a dishwasher you can also add some fat remover that you have at home. Of course, pay attention that it is suitable for clothes, you will not want another disaster…

Boiling water and hand soap

Can the garment that has been stained with tomato be washed in boiling water? If so, try this, otherwise, go to the next trick. Prepare a basin with boiling water (be careful not to burn yourself), the next thing you have to do is spread a little of the soap you use to wash your hands on the tomato stain. Submerge in the basin and let act until you see that the water has cooled. Then wash by hand or in the washing machine.

Baking soda, water and salt paste

Prepare a paste based on baking soda, a little water and a pinch of salt. Then spread the paste directly on the tomato stain. Leave to act for a few minutes, remove with a bit of paper and wash in the washing machine with the rest of the laundry. Works!

Bleach and hydrogen peroxide for tomato stains on white clothes

Can I use bleach if the stain is on white clothes? Yes, but do not abuse this remedy or in the long run yellowish stains will appear on your clothes. You can also put tomato-stained white clothes in a mixture based on hydrogen peroxide and water. Let it act for a few minutes and finish washing in the washing machine as we have explained in the previous tips. This trick is very effective for stubborn tomato stains on white clothes.
