Both French Polynesia and the Maldives have private islands, making them some of the most expensive holiday getaways. You can rent one for a getaway if you can afford about $5,000 a night or more. St. Barts is an island in the Caribbean and is considered the world’s most expensive destination. Accommodation alone can cost $1,800 a night or more.
Oslo
The capital city of Norway, Oslo, is one of the most expensive holiday getaways in the world. It has high prices for accommodation, entertainment, and food, especially for solo travelers. There’s no doubt it’s a beautiful city, but the expense can be off-putting, making it a less budget-friendly destination.
Paris
Paris is considered a very romantic city, which makes it a popular destination. However, accommodation is costly, and many of the popular tourist destinations have overpriced shopping and dining options. Major attractions can also get very crowded during peak season.
Thailand
If you aren’t bothered by crowds, Thailand might be a suitable location for you. But if you don’t like overcrowded areas, avoid the more popular places like Krabi, Pattaya, and Phuket. These destinations have become some of the most expensive holiday getaways due to high demand, with overcrowding driving up prices for accommodation, food, and shopping.
Aspen, Colorado
A popular ski resort town that can be extremely expensive. Expect to pay about $750 or more per person per day. You’ll also have to deal with crowds during peak season.
Venice
Venice, Italy is a beautiful place with a lot to see and do. But, it’s been a popular tourist destination for years, which has led to high prices and crowded canals and streets.
Cancun
One of the top tourist destinations in Mexico, especially with anyone looking for a romantic getaway. But, the beaches and nightlife of Cancun are overcrowded most of the time, making it too commercial for many people.
Dubrovnik
This seaside town in Croatia was recently named the most overcrowded tourist location in Europe. It’s incredibly crowded. The overwhelming amount of tourists has caused significant traffic problems and increased prices.
New York City
Unfortunately, everything is priced high in New York City, and the entire city is overcrowded. Air pollution and the amount of garbage in the city also make it a place that’s harder to enjoy.
The Bahamas
The Bahamas are overrated and overcrowded. Many visitors think they will get a relaxing vacation with lots of beach time. But everyone who visits the Bahamas wants that, so the beaches are always overcrowded. Everything is expensive too, food, accommodation, souvenirs and just about everything else is overpriced.
Santorini
This is one of the most visited Greek islands with millions of visitors a year.. It’s a beautiful place, but so overcrowded you have to deal with traffic jams and congested attractions.
New Orleans, French Quarter
The French Quarter never sleeps, it’s a 24/7 hotspot. It’s overcrowded, expensive and noisy. Yes, it’s a historic area with some beautiful places to visit, if you can handle the crowds and the expense.
Las Vegas
Another city that never sleeps, Las Vegas is packed with casinos and nightlife. Accommodation is expensive, as are the restaurants and shows, and you could lose a lot of money in the casinos.
Reykjavik
This city in Iceland boasts geothermal springs, the Northern Lights, and some amazing locations and views. But even the basic amenities are expensive, and many tourists find that they are just not worth the price.
Sydney
The Sydney Harbor and Opera House are both beautiful locations. However, the most famous city in Australia is expensive to visit and live in. Accommodation costs are high, as are most of the local restaurants.
