Have you ever stumbled across something so bizarre online that you wondered who would actually buy it? You’re not alone. The internet is filled with unusual and downright strange items that have made it into someone’s online shopping cart.

We scoured the internet to see what we could find for the most bizarre online purchases. We found a pretty big list.

This list reveals 19 of the most jaw-dropping online purchases you can imagine. From the absurd to the unbelievable, these quirky buys showcase how wild online shopping can be.

1. Cat Pooping Calendar

What the? Well, you might think you have seen everything until you see cat pooping calendars. People are selling calendars, and a different picture of a cat doing its business is displayed each month.

We hope they are being purchased for a joke and not on display in your kitchen or lounge room. Yikes.

2. A Human Skull

Perhaps someone found a skull when packing up Grandma’s house and decided to sell it. It isn’t a one-off scenario, though. While it is a morbid market, many people are willing to buy them.

Many skulls are sold online; even a rare skeleton or two have made it onto the web. Meanwhile, medical facilities donate the bodies to universities for research if they consent.

The sale of human bones is illegal in most countries. Many social media sites have banned the sale of human remains to ensure government regulations are followed.

3. Air From Texas

Did you know you can buy Texas Air? If you have left Texas but miss the air, you can buy a small bottle of it for $3. Texas air is ‘apparently’ different from the air available everywhere else.

When you open the bottle, you quickly sniff and fill your lungs with Texas air. Unfortunately, you don’t become an instant cowboy and can only use the bottle once.

4. Baby Brass Knuckles

Last time I checked, babies didn’t do much other than sleep and give out the occasional cry. If your baby wishes to change careers and join the mafia, you can get them knuckles.

A brass knuckle is a weapon for your hand. It has holes that you must put your fingers through to form a fist.

Every mafia is complete with the knuckles. You can purchase your baby’s set of brass knuckles in tiny sizes, which are just teethers. Don’t let your baby take these to daycare or grandma’s!

5. Toilet Earrings

Now, there are silly earrings like pineapples with faces or rainbow unicorns. Have you seen toilet ones? Oh dear.

These earrings are little toilets that take fashion to a new level. Should toilets stay in the bathroom, or are we happily using them as fashion statements now?

6. Haunted Ducky

A ‘haunted’ duck, which was said to have the power to possess children, was sold on eBay

The seller also stated that he was not responsible for the duck and anything that occurred once it had left his possession. The duck was advertised for one week and sold for just over $100.

7. Justin Timberlake’s Toast

A half-eaten piece of toast that Justin Timberlake had chomped on went on sale in 2000. The remaining toast slice sold for a little over $1000.

Justin had left his piece of toast behind while at an interview at the radio station in New York. A 19-year-old fan happily bought the toast.

8. Grilled Cheese Sandwich

A sandwich that looks like the Virgin Mary sold online for $28,000. The woman kept the toastie for ten years before deciding it was time to sell.

It wasn’t the price that got people interested. It was the fact that the bread or cheese didn’t go moldy.

9. Illinois-Shaped Cornflake

Cornflakes are wildly popular, and many people feel that breakfast time is only complete with a hearty bowl of their favorite cereal. Yet, I cannot recall ever seeing a cornflake shaped like the state of Illinois.

Two sisters with too much time on their hands discovered one such flake and sold it online for $1,350 in 2008.

10. Princess Beatrice’s Giant Hat

Many refer to the hat as a giant pretzel, and it is easy to see why. Princess Beatrice wore the funky-looking hat to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding.

It certainly stood out. The hat sold for $131,279, and the proceeds went to the Unicef Crisis Charity.

11. Britney Spears Chewing Gum

Most people would discard their chewing gum after a while, but that wasn’t the case for one person.

A Britney Spears fan had a piece of her used chewing gum and posted it for sale on the internet for $14,000. Who can believe someone would pay that amount for used chewing gum?

12. Advertising on a Forehead

In 2005, Andrew Fischer rented the space on his forehead to Snore Stop for advertising.

A temporary tattoo advertising their snoring solutions was placed on his forehead. The space was rented for $37,375. Hmm, it’s a good way to earn some extra cash.

13. Guinea Pig Suit of Armour

A guinea pig protection suit sold in 2013 for $2,000 at a charity auction on eBay. The seller said it was secure and would protect the guinea pig in all situations.

What on earth does the buyer intend to do with the guinea pig? A trip to space? A zombie attack?

14. William Shatner’s Kidney Stone

Star Trek actor William Shatner’s kidney stone sold for $25,000 in 2006, and he donated the money to a housing charity. If a tiny kidney stone is worth that, imagine what the rest of him would sell for.

15. NFTs

Mike Winkelmann, a digital artist renowned for his NFT sales, utilizes these unique digital files to establish ownership of his artwork. Securely stored on a blockchain, NFTs have propelled Winkelmann to new heights.

His recent NFT sale, fetching a staggering $69 million, has elevated him to one of the top three most valuable living artists globally.

16. The Meaning of Life

A man claimed to know the meaning of life and promised to share his knowledge with the highest bidder.

Unfortunately, knowing that alleged information was unimportant to the eight who placed bids. The bids only went up to $3.26. It was more of a humor-me joke than anything else.

17. Glow in the Dark Toilet Paper

Glow-in-the-dark toilet paper is perfect for those who need a quick trip to the loo but want to avoid turning the light on. It sells online for £5.99 (USD 7.56). It glows a bright green, but one roll is expensive.

18. Liver Anyone?

A man auctioned off his liver on eBay, and the bids reached $5.75 million. The post was removed from eBay as selling organs and body parts is a crime.

There’s something to be said about making your home your own. However, certain renovation projects simply aren’t worth the money and time invested.

Being pragmatic about the projects you decide to invest in around your home can be a considerable challenge. There’s always the temptation to add the features you’ve dreamed of having. Then there’s the reality of costs, maintenance, and the long-term appeal of realizing your dream.

I approached compiling the way I would suggest anyone start when contemplating a renovation. I dug into years of real estate sale and construction data from the last few decades to see how costs have fluctuated compared to buyer demand for certain home features. These were the resounding renovation losers, not worth the money.
