11 Food Items You Didn't Know You Could Take Through Airport Security

One of the most overlooked aspects of going to the airport is the freedom to bring any food you wish through airport security! Many people believe you can only bring snacks to your departure gate, but that isn’t true; you can bring entire meals. Recently, experienced travelers met in an online discussion to reveal the food they’ve gotten through airport security themselves or seen others do it! Would you have the courage to bring any of these items with you?

A Whole Pizza

Once you’ve seen a whole pizza go through security, will anything ever surprise you? It takes a specific type of person to shove an entire pizza down the conveyor belt proudly. “I saw a Domino’s pizza go through the x-ray machine in Ohio,” explains one man. “I was baffled.” I’d be baffled, too! I hope the person who brought the pizza shared it with their fellow passengers.

Maryland Blue Crabs

I love Maryland Blue Crabs as much as the next person, but I never thought of bringing a bushel of them through security with me (until now). While this is an ingenious way of enjoying this local Maryland delicacy at home after your flight, you’d have to consider the downside: The awful smell that would permeate through the airplane’s cabin while you’re flying! I wonder if there’s a stinkier food to bring on a plane with you than crabs.

A Bowl of Soup

Unfortunately, you can’t just bring a bowl of piping-hot soup through airport security in the traditional manner, but if you’re dedicated to the mission, a variant of it is possible! One man puts it all into perspective. “You can’t bring a small bowl of soup, but if you break it up into seven 3.4-ounce bottles and fit it in a quart bag, you’re good to go,” says one enterprising traveler. Technically, it isn’t a bowl of soup but many mini-soups. Regardless, it’s a recipe for an enjoyable (yet potentially messy) flight!

Burritos

I’d imagine there are few things in life more satisfying than plopping down a Chipotle burrito on the conveyor belt at the security checkpoint. Not only would all other travelers be exceptionally jealous of you, but you’d have the privilege of enjoying your wrapped burrito during your flight without making a huge mess. I wouldn’t advise bringing Mexican food with you for long-haul flights, but for shorter trips, go wild!

Bricks of Cheese

Countless people arriving from overseas report they have successfully gotten bricks of fresh cheese through airport security, but not before they get pulled aside for a private pat down. As it turns out, large bricks of cheese have an uncanny resemblance to bricks of C4 explosives, which (obviously) you can’t bring anywhere near an airport! Hopefully, X-ray machines will become advanced enough to distinguish between an explosive and a delicious delicacy.

A Dozen Donuts

Count me in as someone who will now absolutely bring a box of donuts through airport security at some point in my life! What a great idea. I can’t tell you how often I wish I had the time to enjoy a dozen donuts while flying. And I never put two and two together and realized I could have achieved this goal on every flight! In case you’re wondering, the answer is no; I will not share any of my donuts. They’re mine, and if you wanted to eat donuts on a plane, you should’ve brought them through security like me. Now stop asking.

A Dozen Eggs

Just when you thought this list wouldn’t take a turn for the worst, it does just that. Who in their right mind thinks bringing eggs onto a plane is okay? “I saw a lady bring two whole cartons of eggs through security the other day without even a second glance from TSA,” reports one woman. “It seems like what they’ll let through is pretty subjective.” I understand that rules are meant to be broken, but I believe TSA should treat eggs like knives; they’re dangerous to all passengers based on their terrible smell!

A Pan of Homemade Lasagna

Everybody knows homemade lasagna is arguably the tastiest food ever, but only some people dare to bring an entire pan of it through airport security. Thankfully, the person who witnessed this potential catastrophe revealed that the offender shared his homemade Italian cuisine with his fellow passengers mid-flight! If you’re trying to tempt others with delicious smells and flavors, at least you’re letting everyone have a bite.

Macaroni and Cheese

As the comfort food of choice for millions of men and women worldwide, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that a handful of people have taken macaroni and cheese through airport security. I frequently enjoy macaroni and cheese (especially Kraft Easy Mac), but I would never think to bring it to the airport! I feel like I’ve been living the wrong way all this time! I’m usually a granola bar type of person on a plane, but it’s time I level up my game.

A Half-Eaten Watermelon

I hate it when I lose track of time and can’t finish my airport watermelon by the time I walk through security, don’t you? “I brought an opened and partly-eaten half of a watermelon with a spoon,” confesses one man. “The TSA agents couldn’t stop laughing when I put it through the X-ray machine.” If you bring something comical through security, I’d hope your actions would garner a few laughs; otherwise, what’s the point? Kudos to the TSA agents for having a sense of humor!

A Bucket of Fried Chicken

Is there a more ridiculous food to bring through airport security than a bucket of fried chicken? It’s an excellent choice for anyone who wants a terrible stomachache and greasy fingers that will last for the duration of a flight. I’m shocked TSA allowed a bucket of chicken to pass through the X-ray machine; although it’s technically legal, I draw the line at fried (albeit delicious) chicken legs.
