There are plenty of things many people want to be Legal Prohibitions, but society or government deems it just not possible. However, what about things we would rather be illegal? The internet responded with plenty of things they wish didn’t exist or would at least get people into trouble for doing. Here is Future Unthinkable: 12 Bold Legal Prohibitions on the Horizon.
Telemarketers

Many agreed that receiving unsolicited calls from people trying to sell something was a nuisance they’d rather not deal with. One comment suggested that “it’ll never get banned per se, but almost certainly the technology to ensure that telemarketing never reaches anyone who doesn’t want it will happen.”
Commercials for Prescription Drugs

In some countries, these are not allowed on TV, but in the U.S., they take up a lot of advertising space. “Do people go to the doctor and say, hey, I saw a commercial for Cymbalta? Can I have a prescription for it?” asked one person. Apparently, the answer is a resounding “yes,” according to others.
Multi-Level Marketing

One person said, “A lot more people are seeing these for what they are.” Others suggested that even some charities were now multi-level marketing schemes: “Autism Speaks is a huge example of one that makes my blood boil. I’m a dude with autism myself, and it’s revolting. It started as a pure place but became a money-hungry cesspool, and the founder’s views destroyed that even more.”
Video Games and Apps Aimed at Kids

People don’t want the apps and games banned; they want the ability for kids to purchase things in games gone. Many have heard of kids unwittingly using mom’s credit cards to purchase various add-ons. “If the game can be sold to children, it should not have microtransactions,” commented one person.
Beauty Contests Featuring Underage Contestants

How do you feel about childhood pageants? One naysayer said, “It will probably get worse. Have you seen dance recitals? Pageants seem classy in comparison.”
Government Officials Owning or Trading Individual Stocks

The person who mentioned this clarified that they didn’t think this would ever become illegal, but “a strong transparency law would be a step in the right direction.”
Subscription Services for Certain Product Features

You’ve paid good money for a product and need to pay a regular fee to use part of it. It hardly seems logical. One person said, “It’s ridiculous that one requires a subscription service to use the key fob for their car.” Someone else added, “I feel that this will get worse.”
Child Marriage

This one honestly speaks for itself. While illegal in some places, this is still a common practice in many countries. And in the U.S., seven states have no minimum marriage age requirement.
Companies Buying Single-Family Homes

Instead of families purchasing homes, companies buy them for profit. One person pointed out that “it’s destroying the housing market in my area.” This phenomenon drives up property value and increases rent, making living costs difficult for many.
Data Privacy Violations

While Europe can punish corporations under the General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR, the rest of the world still needs to catch up with this issue, which constantly increases, especially with things such as directed advertising.
Single Use Plastics

Some people felt that recycling was a scam. Another said, “My small hope is product packaging that does not use combined materials. For example, plastic that is glued to paper in a way that is impossible to separate, making recycling almost impossible.”
Family Vlog Channels

These appear to be the bain of many parents according to the internet. For some reason, young children love watching other families do silly things and play games. People couldn’t understand why you’d let your kids watch this when there was so much good children’s content on other streaming services.
Others said their children were “emulating the frenetic behavior they had seen in the videos.” Another said, “In 15-20 years, when these kids are adults, we’re going to see some unprecedented court cases of kids suing their parents for flaunting them online against their will.”
