Do you have old clothes fading away in your closet? You don’t have to throw them away or donate them. There are so many ways to reuse and repurpose clothing.

Growing up, I used many of these same creative methods. I’d crop long jeans into shorts and cut up shirts to create cleaning rugs. But what else can you do? I chose these creative ways based on their simplicity and then curated the top creative DIY tricks you can use to save money using only household items.

Here, we have 12 creative ways to repurpose old clothes and save money.

Clothes to Cleaning Rags

The easiest way to repurpose your clothing is by cutting it into cleaning rags. You can never have too many cleaning rags. All you need for this DIY project are old shirts and scissors.

Shirts to Headbands

Old shirts are so useful. They can be transformed into virtually anything. For instance, you can cut and sew them into headbands. You don’t need a sewing machine or sewing skills, either. You can also tie the fabric into a knot or use a hot glue gun.

Scarves

Once again, I’m mentioning old shirts. A fun project I like to do with old, fading shirts is to transform them into scarves. A few cuts, and you can have a nifty scarf.

Creating Crop Tops

Are you tired of baggy shirts? Sometimes, I want to wear a crop top but don’t want to spend extra money. If this is you, consider cutting an old shirt to create a crop top.

Jeans to Shorts

Just like you can cut old shirts, you can also cut old jeans. Pants can easily turn into shorts, which is perfect if your jeans are fraying and fading.

Patches

Whenever some of my jeans start fading or the holes grow larger, I love using patches. All you need is a patch and an iron. They are easy to attach and bring more life to your clothes.

Sock Heating Pad

Old clothes don’t have to remain clothes to save you money. Another great way to repurpose old clothes is to create sock heating pads. All you need are socks and rice.

Stuff the clean old sock with rice, tie it closed and microwave it.

Cotton Produce Bag

I own way too many old baggy shirts. Did you know you can make produce bags out of them to save space and money and reuse the materials? All you need are scissors and an old, mostly cotton T-shirt.

Wall Decor

Finding the right decorations for your home can be tricky. I’m a picky person with specific tastes, and sometimes, this is reflected in my clothes, so what better way to use them than to decorate?

Cotton t-shirts can be stretched onto wood to create a poster-like canvas. You can also cut tassels from scarves or other accessories to add around your home.

Old Cloth for Scrunchies

You can never have enough hair ties. I would know. I constantly lose my scrunchies. When this happens, take an old piece of clothing and tear strips. You can create dozens of scrunchies with these pieces, a sewing needle, thread, and elastic.

 Denim Dog Toys

Denim is tough, but it doesn’t last forever. Before parting with your denim pieces, consider transforming them into dog toys. This creative way to repurpose your old clothes can save you money on tough dog toys.

Lastly are pillowcases. Just like with hair ties and rags, you can never have enough. An old oversized shirt is more than enough to create a pillow. All you need is a thread, sewing needle, and stuffing.

You can even do it cheaper, filling the pillow with fabric or cotton ball scraps.

15 Bizarre Items That People Bought and Sold on eBay

We all have an eBay account, but who still uses the platform? Traditionally, eBay was the go-to website to sell and buy used items. Now, there are many marketplaces for second-hand items, but eBay is the place where weirdness abounds. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen on eBay? I can bet it wasn’t as weird as some of these items.

13 Home Renovations That Are Not Worth the Money

There’s something to be said about making your home your own. However, certain renovation projects simply aren’t worth the money and time invested.

Being pragmatic about the projects you decide to invest in around your home can be a considerable challenge. There’s always the temptation to add the features you’ve dreamed of having. Then there’s the reality of costs, maintenance, and the long-term appeal of realizing your dream.

I approached compiling the way I would suggest anyone start when contemplating a renovation. I dug into years of real estate sale and construction data from the last few decades to see how costs have fluctuated compared to buyer demand for certain home features. These were the resounding renovation losers, not worth the money.

The cost of living in the United States has skyrocketed in the last four years. So, what happens when the cost of living goes up? We stop buying certain things. I can think of many items and luxuries I’ve let go of because they’ve gotten so expensive.

Honestly, with the increasing prices, it’s not worth it. Maybe you’re experiencing the same dilemma. It’s hard to decide how to buy the things we need without breaking the bank. To help with those tough decisions, we curated these things based on luxuries and wants instead of needs.

Some may be more difficult than others to let go. However, in the end, we think it makes sense. What about you?
