For many years, I never considered shopping at Dollar Tree. I had preconceived notions that all they sold were cheap, low-quality products, or I never thought they’d have anything I wanted. Either way, these stores were never on my radar. However, once I started to buy at dollar stores, I realized they offer great deals on everyday essentials without compromising quality.
That changed once I moved out on my own and realized how expensive everyday items can be. Today, dollar stores are my best friends, and I save a lot of money shopping there.

2. Picture Frames
I understand buying expensive frames for important art pieces, prominent portraits, or sentimental items. But if you’re hanging small photos in a hallway or home office, you can save a lot of money by shopping for frames at value stores.
People focus on the picture’s subjects rather than the frames, so why spend more than a buck or two on them? Your wallet will thank you for shopping at the Dollar Tree, especially if you want to hang multiple pictures.
3. Paper Plates and Utensils

The Dollar Store has everything you need to keep your home nice and tidy. They sell kitchen cleaners, laundry detergent, scrubbers, brushes, bleach, and gloves. I always stock up on scrubbing brushes when I’m shopping.
You never want to be put in a situation where you’re doing the dishes and realize you don’t have any brushes or sponges.
6. Candy
Next time you and your friend go to the movies, ditch the overpriced theater goodies for options at Dollar Tree. They have all the popular brands and flavors of candy for a fraction of the cost.
Why pay $10 for a bag of Sour Patch Kids when you can get the same thing for a few dollars at Dollar Tree? You can even buy a few bags and store them in a secret spot for when you need a sugar fix and don’t feel like sharing.
7. Paper Goods
When I discovered how cheap items like paper towels, napkins, and toilet paper were, I started buying them at the dollar store. It’s easy to stock up on these products and have them handy when needed. They might not be the highest-quality paper goods, but you can’t beat the price.
If you have to use an extra paper towel occasionally, you won’t feel like you’re throwing money away.
8. Cooking Spices
When I moved into my first apartment, the first place I went to was the dollar store to stock my spice rack. You can get all of the basic spices you need for a delicious home-cooked meal without breaking the bank. These stores carry salt, pepper, paprika, cumin, onion powder, chili flakes, and oregano for a dollar each.
I might not have the most discriminating palate, but my taste buds can’t tell the difference between a container of pepper that costs a dollar and one that’s $5.
9. Plant Supplies
Plant lovers know that the dollar store has discounted clay pots, soil supplements, watering cans, plant liners, and seeds. You might not be able to get large pots, but if you live in an apartment or need smaller pots, this is your place to shop.
They not only have all the potting supplies you need to start your gardening hobby, but they also sell decorative items. Spruce up your flowerbed with a little garden gnome or some seasonal flair to make your plants more festive.
10. Baking Sheets
Baking sheets don’t have to be fancy or cost a lot of money. When I shopped for one at a big box department store, I was shocked to see they were over $10. You can get a pack of baking sheets at your local dollar store for that price.
The same sheet you buy for a dollar will cook your food just as well as the $10 sheet and last just as long.
11. Balloons and Party Supplies
Are you planning a birthday party for your kids? If so, you’ll need balloons, party favors, streamers, table covers, and party bags. On top of food, cake, and presents, that could become a pricey shopping trip.
Luckily, you can buy all of these products at the Dollar Store. You can even stop in the toy and candy aisles to assemble to-go party favors for your kid’s friends. Buy your child an extra present and go frugal on party supplies that will get trashed anyway.
12. Hand Sanitizer
Hand sanitizers became a vital accessory during the pandemic, and people still keep travel-size bottles in their cars or offices.
If this sounds like you, save money by purchasing a pack of generic hand sanitizers instead of the expensive name brands you find at department stores. Most are made from the same ingredients, so why spend money on a name brand when generic ones do the same thing?
13. Holiday Decorations
Holiday decorations are usually only displayed for a month, if not less. Why spend a fortune on barely used decorations that can be easily damaged because they’re outside in the elements? Plus, you might want to change your style from year to year, and the next thing you know, you have a garage filled with expensive decorations you no longer use.
Instead, buy cheaper decorations and stop worrying about them getting destroyed or outdated.
14. Painkillers
In case you didn’t know, generic acetaminophen, aspirin, and naproxen sodium contain the same ingredients as the more expensive options. You might give yourself a headache thinking about how much money you have wasted on expensive medicine.
These cheaper options can help you quickly eliminate that headache without spending extra cash.
15. Plastic Bags/Storage Containers
If you pack lunch for your family, you know how quickly plastic bags disappear. Buying these products in bulk ensures you always have them on hand.
Dollar Tree sells these in bulk, and while they might not be as sturdy as brands like Ziploc, as long as they keep your sandwich fresh until lunchtime, they are doing their job.
