Almost everyone enjoys a good mystery, and many think that most mysteries can be solved or figured out. Unfortunately, that’s not true. Over the years, there have been many mysteries that experts could not solve, no matter how many examined the cases.
Some mysteries are scary, others strange, but all are interesting and will pique your interest. We’ve put together a list that contains all of these features.

Unsolved Mysteries: The Mary Celeste
On December 4, 1872, The Mary Celeste, a British-American ship, was discovered completely abandoned in the Atlantic Ocean. It was seaworthy, and its cargo was intact. The only thing missing was a lifeboat. It’s still a mystery why the ship was abandoned.
The Aluminum Wedge of Aiud
In 1974, an object was found a little over a mile outside Aiud, Romania. It was found next to two mastodon bones buried in 35 feet of sand on the banks of the Mures River. It resembles a hammerhead and is made of aluminum alloy with a layer of oxide around it. It’s a mystery because aluminum wasn’t mass-produced until 1885. It was found in the same layer of earth as the mastodon bones, which shows that the wedge is at least 11,000 years old.
The Paulding Light
People in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan have been seeing strange lights since 1966, and nobody has found the source. The lights occur at night on Robbins Pond Road, just off US 45 outside of Paulding. Hundreds of tourists and locals have reported seeing the lights in several colors.
The Bermuda Triangle
Also known as Satan’s Triangle, the Bermuda Triangle is in the western part of the North Atlantic Sea. It’s famous for the multiple unexplained disappearances of airplanes and boats. There are many theories about what happened, but the real reason remains a mystery.
The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann
In 2007, Madeleine was on vacation in Portugal with her family. Her parents left her sleeping in their hotel room (she was almost four at the time) while they went to the villa’s restaurant. When they returned, Madeleine was gone, and investigators have been trying to find her ever since.
The Moores Murders
In 1912, in Villisca, Iowa, Josia Moore, his wife, their four children, and 2 young girls from a nearby farm were brutally murdered with an ax. Police arrested Lyn George Jacklin Kelly, and he even confessed but quickly recanted. The jury found him not guilty at the trial, so this mystery remains unsolved.
The Body on Somerton Beach
In December 1948, in Adelaide, Australia, a man’s body was found on Somerton Beach. The man was well dressed, and authorities initially thought the man had a heart attack or was poisoned. But the autopsy showed neither was the case. The man had no identification, and his fingerprints were not on file. The man’s identity has still not been discovered, and the code authorities found in his pocket has never been deciphered.
Dyatlov Pass Incident

In 1959, in the Ural Mountains in Russia, the bodies of nine expert hikers were found. They were all in various stages of nakedness with odd injuries and signs of trauma, and their tent was found ripped apart from the inside. There have been several theories, but no one has discovered what really happened.
The Murders of Lynne Weedon, Eve Stratford, and Elizabeth Parravincina
In March 1975, Eve Stratford was murdered in London. She was a bunny girl and a model. About six months later, on the other side of London, the body of schoolgirl Lynne Weedon was found. Two years later, the body of Elizabeth Parravincina was found with similar markings to the other two bodies. Police believe that an unknown serial killer is responsible for all three murders but still have no leads to go on.
The Beaumont Children’s Disappearance
On January 26, 1966, in Adelaide, Australia, three Beaumont children were seen playing on Glenelg Beach with an unknown man. This was the last time anyone saw the children and the man. None of them were ever seen again.
The Miyazawa Family Murders
December 31, 2000, in Setagaya, Japan, a woman was worried when she found her daughter and son-in-law’s phone disconnected. As she lived next door, she went over to make sure everything was ok. She found her daughter, son-in-law, and their two children had been murdered. The murderer left his DNA all over the house. His fingerprints, blood, clothing, and more were left behind. However, police could never find a suspect, and the murder remains unsolved.
The Ada Witch
In the 1800s, a husband found his wife with her lover in the woods near the Findlay Cemetery in Ada, Michigan. A fight broke out, and the man ended up murdering his wife. The Ada Witch, a woman dressed in a white dress, now haunts the cemetery, and it’s believed it’s the ghost of the adulterous woman. Visitors to the cemetery have seen strange orbs and mists and heard footsteps, shrieking, weeping, and sounds of a struggle. Some even say the ghost has touched them.
The Voynich Manuscript
A 250-page book written in an unknown language that’s been carbon-dated to the 1400s. The Voynich Manuscript includes illustrations of plants that don’t resemble any species known today. The book is believed to be a medical text, but nobody knows where it originated.
The Taos Murmur
Some residents of Taos, New Mexico, say they hear a constant, low-reoccurring murmur that sounds like a far-off motor. Although many have tried to find the source of the noise, it remains a mystery.
Black Dahlia
Elizabeth Short, otherwise known as the Black Dahlia, was murdered in Los Angeles in 1947. Since her mutilated body was discovered, her murder has piqued public interest. Unfortunately, her murder is still unsolved.
Jack the Ripper
In the late 1800s, in Whitechapel, London, Jack the Ripper carried out a string of brutal murders. Most of his victims were prostitutes who lived and worked in the slums of London’s East End. To this day, the murderer has never been identified, and the murders are still unsolved.
