In 2024, more and more men and women are taking advantage of “Self-Care Sunday,” which is indulging in something that puts them at ease ahead of their busy upcoming work week. Today, we’re examining the best rituals to ensure that your Sunday revolves around what matters most: You. If you’ve struggled to find much-deserved “me time,” today’s your lucky day.
1. Take a Bath

Sometimes, the most obvious ways to practice self-care are the most effective. Taking a bath isn’t reserved for moody characters in off-the-radar independent films; it’s an established way to relax, contemplate, and reward yourself while lying in a pool of water. Level up your bath with bath salts, bubbles, and (of course) a well-earned glass of wine to ensure your work week goes swimmingly.
2. Go on a Solo Date

Who says a date needs to be between two people? Sundays are the perfect time to take yourself on a date. Whether going to the movies to see the latest Hollywood hit or spending a few hours at your favorite restaurant, there’s no longer a stigma attached to a person spending quality time alone. You’d be surprised how relaxing a solo date can be in 2024.
3. Meditate

My girlfriend meditates every morning, and as our relationship deepened, I realized she’s on to something genuinely great. Every Sunday morning, she takes 30 minutes to use a meditation app on her smartphone. It calms her, relaxes her, and puts her in a positive mindset as the weekend draws closer. One of these days, I’ll follow in her footsteps; until then, I’ll remain a curmudgeon.
4. Catch Up With a Friend

Is there anything more satisfying than picking up your phone, dialing the number of one of your closest friends, and engaging in some of the best conversations you’ve ever had? I think not. There’s a certain solace found in talking to a close confidante and talking to certain people in our lives can give us the strength we need to start our work weeks off on the best foot possible.
5. Take a Class

It’s okay to flex your creative muscles and get creative on Sundays. Taking a class based on your interests (or something outside of your comfort zone) is one of the best ways to celebrate who matters in your life (you). It doesn’t matter if you take a yoga class, an art class, or a class at your local gym that’s always intimidated you. You owe it to yourself to push yourself to the limit.
6. Try Something New

If you desperately need self-care on Sundays, it’s time to try something new. Introducing something unfamiliar may be the jumpstart your seemingly routine needs. Don’t be afraid to start new traditions. Even something as simple as planning weekly Sunday brunches with a few close friends can be what you need. Feeling “stuck” in a routine can be debilitating, so buck the trend and embrace something you don’t usually do.
7. Sleep In

If you ask me, there’s nothing more satisfying than sleeping in. Although countless men and women habitually wake up at the same time during the weekend as they would during the week, nothing beats telling your body’s internal clock to take a hike on Sunday mornings. Sleeping until late morning isn’t a sign of weakness or laziness; it’s giving your body a much-deserved break. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Sleeping in on Sundays can be an instant refresher if you constantly wake up feeling tired during the week.
8. Experience Nature

As the kids say, it’s time to “touch grass.” Most of us spend too much time indoors, glued to screens and locked inside our little bubbles. Experiencing nature in all her glory is a surefire way to fend off all anxiety accompanying the weekend’s last day. Going for a hike, jog, or even a walk around the neighborhood can calm your nerves and boost your serotonin levels. If you spend most of your days inside a building, experiencing nature could be just what the doctor ordered.
9. Volunteer

Volunteering is another fantastic Sunday ritual that can overhaul your mindset ahead of a busy week. The opportunities to help are nearly endless. Working for the greater good is easier than you think if you live in an average-sized city. I know many people who work in soup kitchens on the weekends or help out at the local pet shelter. Knowing that you spend your Sunday doing something that makes a difference for others in need is invaluable.
10. Cook a Healthy Meal

Many of us use the weekend to indulge in the most unhealthy tendencies. Although I don’t enjoy adult beverages as often as I did when I was in my 20s, I still fall into the trap of drinking too much during social events. Of course, I compound the issue by eating fast food in my inebriated state. What I should be doing is preparing an ultra-healthy meal on Sunday to get my metabolism and nutrition back on track before the weekend is over. Cooking a healthy meal is one of the easiest and most delicious ways to take control of your Sundays.
11. Exercise

Although exercise is one of the most beneficial things a person can do, committing to it on Sundays can be challenging. While Sundays are traditionally “the day of rest,” you shouldn’t take any days off if you prioritize your body’s long-term health. I prefer going to the gym daily, but working out at home or playing a sport outside with friends is an equally effective substitute. Trust me — you’ll never regret exercising more often.
12. Call Your Parents

When was the last time you called your parents? Although communicating with the people who brought you into the world is dreaded by countless men and women, it’s a small gesture that goes a long way. Although no hard scientific facts support this theory, I genuinely believe that all parents would rather talk to their kids more often than once in a while. Not only will you brighten their day, but I’m sure some good vibes will rub off on you and make your Sunday much more manageable.
13. Treat Yourself

Contrary to popular belief, treating yourself is an acceptable Sunday ritual and one of the most satisfying. There’s nothing wrong with spoiling yourself like you’re Aziz Ansari’s character from Parks and Recreation if it means you’re putting yourself in a positive mindset. Buy something you don’t need, indulge in food you’d usually avoid, or book an expensive spa treatment. Sometimes, the easiest way to prepare for the challenging week ahead is to treat yourself as only you can.
14. Binge Your Favorite Show

There’s nothing wrong with watching TV for hours. Some of the most satisfying moments of my life have happened when watching my favorite shows (no shame here), and if you want to binge-watch TV from the comfort of your couch on Sunday, then embrace it. If doing so brings you joy, don’t shy away from it. After all, there are endless quality shows to watch these days.
15. Avoid Technology for the Day

Conversely, if you want a total technology reset to set yourself up for success in the upcoming week, feel free to put your electronic devices away for the rest of the weekend. Unplugging is one of the best ways to relax on Sundays. There’s no pressure to respond to texts, emails, and phone calls. By forgoing technology, you can focus on what matters most: yourself.
